Polished Stone With Snow

In view of the fresh snow on the ground, I thought I would show you a snow themed card. Lots of techniques involved in that card! How do you think the person receiving it would feel? Would she think, wow, I am special that she took the time to make this special card just for me... That's the beauty of hand made cards.

The background is called "Polished Stone" because it lookes like marble. It is messy but fun to make using rubbing alcohol, Classic ink refills and also silver ink refill.

What do you think of the big fluffy snowflake? It is quite fun to make as well using the Simply Scored tool and the Lace Border punch. And the rosette is much easier to assemble if you use an empty brad container.

If you live in the Kitchener - Waterloo area, this is the card we will make at the Technique Café on Monday, February 13. Plus also a Valentine themed card.

New Paper Doily - Beautiful!

 

I love the new Paper Doily sizzlit in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. OK, there are lots of things I love in the new mini... but this gives such a delicate, beautiful look to any project.

I have to admit, it is fiddly to punch out all the little pieces but the result is very much worth the little bit of extra time.

So many different ways to use this die.

New Framelits (hearts and labels). You use those with the Big Shot machine or other similar die cutting machine. You can stamp your image first and then cut it out. It's like having 6 punches in one. How cool is that?

Creativity at Work

 

So this is the result of two little girls spending an afternoon with Granny. I don't kow who had the most fun!

Oh, can you see the "lighthouse"? Pretty clever for a 6 year old... glad her sister liked the effect on her picture... I showed them how to do the stamp off with the grass to give dimension so they expanded with the house.

The top project is made with the brown paper we get in the Stampin' Up! parcels to keep the content safe and a National Geographic magazine. Thanks Dawn for the idea for Santa with punches. That sure was fun! And Melon Mambo being the favourite colour, the bird is creative.

Double Embossing

Did you notice the gold and silver embossing on the tree from Snow Swirled stamp set? Pretty cool effect and so easy.

Double embossing instructions:

1. Stamp the tree from the Snow Swirled stamps set using Versamark ink.
2. Use a scrap piece of paper about 3" square, place a teaspoon of gold embossing powder in the middle and then shape it into a small funnel.
3. Carefully dump gold embossing powder in strategic areas.
4. Dump excess powder by turning your card stock quickly over. Do not let gold embossing powder slide into areas you don't want it. 
5. Now cover the whole tree with silver embossing powder. Shake off excess as usual.
6. Heat with the heat tool and voila! a pretty cool effect.

Have fun with this technique with other stamps and various coloured embossing powders.

Stocking Builder Punch: while it lasts...

Doing the last minute preprations for Christmas celebration. We will have all the Draders plus a few guests over on Christmas day. Very much looking forward to our time together.

Amber designed this card and we had fun making it at our last Canadian Crafters gathering. I love the silver glimmer paper: bling that doesn't fly all over the house!

A Northern Flurry Christmas

I was inspired by the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger for this card. We have made variations of this at different classes and when I saw the beautiful cushion, I thought of this card right away.

I kept the soft colours and the theme of Christmas.

Are you wondering how I made the background?
Here are the directions:

1. Ink your brayer with White Craft ink and roll it on the Northern Flurry embossing folder. Make sure you you roll the side that has the most flat areas and the snow flakes are recessed.
2. Insert the Crumb Cake piece of card stock into the folder. Make your sandwich and run through the Big Shot machine.
3. Carefully remove the card stock so as not to smear. Pour white embossing powder all over. Shake off excess and heat set with the heat tool.
