Messages for Mom: Happy Birthday

 
It was fun celebrating my daughter-in-law's birthday this week. Because of the distance we often miss those celebrations...  We went for a girls sushi lunch. Fun!

This card is made with the "Messages for Mom" stamp set, available in wood mount or clear mount. Notice also how stamping a simple background can make a card stand out! The Solid Stripes (item 115707) on the bottom this gently watercolored birthday card balances the design perfectly. You'll look like a card-making master!

This card is reflecting what I am living right now... visiting with family in Ontario. I have had some great "Granny" time and looking forward to more this week.

Tool Tip: Tabletop Paper Cutter

A paper cutter is a basic tool for all card makers and scrapbookers. I just love Stampin' Up!'s tabletop paper cutter! Here is why:

- All edges are clean with any card stock. No more frayed edges on the Whisper White card stock.

- When my cards are not folded quite straight (does that ever happen to you?) I can trim off the smidge and it's all straight again.

- I never have to replace (and pay) for a blade.

- Measuring 17-3/8” x 7-1/8” x 2-3/4” with a detachable arm, I can easily cut a 12"x12" piece of card stock.

- I can cut 2 or 3 layers of card stock at a time, saving me time.

Chocolate Chip Bunny

Mmmm, chocolate. We visited a Lindt factory in Koln when we went to Germany to spend time with our son and his family. It was fun to watch them wrap the great big chocolate bunnies and make sure the shinny paper was all smooth, showing all the ridges in the chocolate. This was done by hand, not by machine.

Not as tasty, but easier on the waist line, send chocolate wishes to a friend for any other chocolate-appropriate occasion. That's just about any time, right?

Pretty Package

Isn't this a fun way to wrap some goodies? The larger Glassine Bags (item 117228) are originally flat but can be transformed into this shape and then decorated to hold some treats.And they are grease proof meaning that you can put cookies in them and they will stay nice.

When left flat, the Glassine Bags can hold a card. You can add some decorations to the bag to hide part of the card so the recipient can see only part of the card and get a surprise when opening it. Fun eh?

Gift Card Holder with "Hugs"

Sometimes we want to give a gift card to someone and want to make it special. Here is a very pretty way to "package" the card. It uses the "Hugs Sending Love Notes" (item 118778) from the Occasions Mini. These are very cool scalloped card stock rectangles. And you can also get glassine envelopes (item 117227) to put them in. How cool is that?

Spring Fling Sneak Peek

This is one of the cards we will be making at the Spring Fling stamp camp on Saturday, March 27 from 11:00 am to about 4:00 pm.

I have been having fun preparing for this time together... planning the door prizes and other fun things. I am really looking forward to a fun day!

Eggcellent Eggs Cards

Why use something exactly the way it is meant to be used? That's what creativity is all about.

The Eggcellent Eggs Kit in the Occasions Mini catalogue is designed for decorating eggs. However, as you can see, you can use all the little flowers and other elements to make really cute notecards. These were made by club members recently.

Being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I get to be creative every day and be paid for it. But more than that, I get to help others enjoy their creative side too. Nothing brings me more joy than to have someone exclaim "Wow, I made this..."

Birthday Card with Paper Flower Tutorial

This is a very simple card to make but how striking!

I used the Very Vintage wheel on Melon Mambo for the bottom panel. The greeting is from Well Scripted stamp set. Very easy to position with the clear blocks!

The black satin ribbon adds a touch of elegance.

Paper Flower Tutorial:

- Take a jumbo brad and stain it with black Staz-on ink. Let dry.

- Roll the Very Vintage Wheel with Melon Mambo ink over tissue paper. The piece I used was about 8"x6".

- Fold tissue paper so you have about 6 layers at least 2.5"x2.5". Sandwich the tissue paper between 2 layers of computer paper. Punch the stack with the Fancy Flower punch. The computer paper keeps the edges of the tissue paper nice and crisp while going through the punch.

- Crumple the tissue paper then un-crumple. Re-stack so the flower petals are offset from each other. Punch a hole in the middle of the flower. Add the brad. Fluff up the flower. Add it to your project.

• Want to make "hills" on your project but frustrated with the little nicks left by the scissors? Use the rotary cutter and your Cutting Mat. You can then roll a wave on your paper - all smooth curves, no nicks.


• Want to distress the edges of you project? Use the distressing tool and it's done in a jiffy.


• Of course scoring your cards before folding them gives you a much neater finish. The rotary scoring tool part of this kit is ideal for the job.

Totally Tool: A Masculine Card

Tools, tools and more tools... We enjoy our card making and scrapbooking tools... the men in our lives enjoy building tools...

We have no choice in our family: my grandmother collected gadgets, I tend to collect craft making tools, and my son is collecting many building tools. Hey, you need just the right tool for the job, right? {smile}

Sweet Pea Bird

This is a fast and easy card - one of the samples we will be making at the Spring Fling Stamp Camp. All the samples will be based from the Sweet Pea Designer Series paper. This card also uses the two-step bird punch.

We will make 12 cards and box to hold them. The cards will be all occasions and in some cases you will be able to choose the greeting.
