I love the new Paper Doily sizzlit in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. OK, there are lots of things I love in the new mini... but this gives such a delicate, beautiful look to any project.

I have to admit, it is fiddly to punch out all the little pieces but the result is very much worth the little bit of extra time.

So many different ways to use this die.

Double Embossing

Did you notice the gold and silver embossing on the tree from Snow Swirled stamp set? Pretty cool effect and so easy.

Double embossing instructions:

1. Stamp the tree from the Snow Swirled stamps set using Versamark ink.
2. Use a scrap piece of paper about 3" square, place a teaspoon of gold embossing powder in the middle and then shape it into a small funnel.
3. Carefully dump gold embossing powder in strategic areas.
4. Dump excess powder by turning your card stock quickly over. Do not let gold embossing powder slide into areas you don't want it. 
5. Now cover the whole tree with silver embossing powder. Shake off excess as usual.
6. Heat with the heat tool and voila! a pretty cool effect.

Have fun with this technique with other stamps and various coloured embossing powders.

A Northern Flurry Christmas

I was inspired by the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger for this card. We have made variations of this at different classes and when I saw the beautiful cushion, I thought of this card right away.

I kept the soft colours and the theme of Christmas.

Are you wondering how I made the background?
Here are the directions:

1. Ink your brayer with White Craft ink and roll it on the Northern Flurry embossing folder. Make sure you you roll the side that has the most flat areas and the snow flakes are recessed.
2. Insert the Crumb Cake piece of card stock into the folder. Make your sandwich and run through the Big Shot machine.
3. Carefully remove the card stock so as not to smear. Pour white embossing powder all over. Shake off excess and heat set with the heat tool.

Snow Swirled With a Twist

This is the most popular card so far this year! You can easily make multiples of this card.

Here are the instructions:

1. Cut Crumb Cake card stock to measure 4-1/4" x 11" and then score at 2-3/4" and 5-1/2" along the 11" side. Fold in a Z.

2. Stamp the medium snow flake from the Snow Swirled stamp set in Crumb Cake ink randomly on the small section of the front.

3. Stamp the tree from Snow Swirled in Always Artichoke ink  and the greeting in Cherry Cobbler. On the other piece of Very Vanilla, stamp the greeting for inside the card in Cherry Cobbler and the smallest snow flake in Always Artichoke. Mat the Very Vanilla Pieces with Cherry Cobbler card stock.

3. Adhere the piece inside the card such that the top, right and bottom margin are equal.

4. Close the card. Add SNAIL adhesive to the left side of the front mat only.

5. Place that mat so it covers the inside mat exactly.

6. Add rhinestone jewels in strategic places for bling.

Batty For You Card

Oh my golly, have a creepy crawly Halloween this year with the Batty for You set. Pair the images in this set with the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle punch to achieve the same layered look.

With eight images in the Batty for You set, you will have a number of choices for your Halloween projects.

The rosette in the pumpkin pie patterned paper is very easy to make with the Simply Scored tool.

Rosette Tutorial:

Take a strip of paper and score it  every 1/2".
Flip it over and now score this side every 1/2" but start at the 1/4" mark.
Now fold it like an accordeon - very easy to do with even pleats.
Glue the ends together in such a way there is not interruption in the accordeon.
Flatten the middle and use a strong adhesive (tombow multipurpose glue or sticky sheets) to hold it flat on a circle of card stock.

Someone asked how I made the bow on the card yesterday. I tried to explain with words but it was hard. I have also been thinking for a while now that I should start making videos. So here is my first attempt.

Scenic Season with Shoji Screen Technique

I came across the Shoji Screen Technique recently and thought I would try it with the Scenic Season stamp set. I really like how it turned out. I will be demonstrating this technique at all my upcoming stamping parties. Live in the Kitchener area of Ontario? I would love to show it first hand to you and your friends. Contact me for more information.

Shoji Screen Technique

- Cut a piece of gold waffle paper approximately 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and smooth it out somewhat - not too much, you want to keep some of the wrinkles. Notice there is a shiny side and a dull side.

- Ink your stamp well with Basic Black Classic ink and stamp on the dull side of the waffle paper. Notice how it comes through on the shiny side.

- Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock and a piece of multipurpose adhesive sheet 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". Remove the protective sheet from the adhesive sheet (it's labelled) and adhere to the whisper white card stock. Burnish well with your bone folder and remove the other protective sheet.

- Adhere the waffle paper piece (dull side down) to the now-sticky whisper white card stock.  You will see your image reversed on the shiny side. Make sure it adheres well but leave some wrinkles for texture.

- Stamp the greeting with Basic Black Classic ink.

- Run the piece through the big shot machine and the top note die. Finish your card.

Four Frames Vintage

I love this beautiful card made by Charlotte. It was one of the swaps I received at Convention and thought I would share with you.

How did she make the background you ask? Ok, here is how you get this look:

• Choose an embossing folder with a bold design. Here she used the Vintage Wallpaper folder.
• Ink the raised part of the folder. Here she used Soft Suede. You can use a brayer or use your ink pad directly on the folder. Don't worry, the ink washes off with water.
• Run through the Big Shot Machine as usual

Round Corners

Rounded corners look really cool on any project. The corner rounder punch from Stampin' Up! is great for that. Butterfly Pansies

Create these fun little pansies with the butterfly punch and some reinkers! I first saw this technique on Dawn Olchefske's blog last Spring and she provided the inspiration for this card layout. You can see a step by step video of this technique on her site here.

Technique Directions

Download Technique

1. Punch out four butterflies – two for each flower – out of Shimmery White cardstock.
2. Spritz them generously with water.
3. Apply Elegant Eggplant reinker using Aquapainter. The ink should spread out and you can move it with the Aquapainter.
4. Repeat with More Mustardin the middle.
5. Allow to dry (or speed it up with the heat tool).
6. Curl the edges on your butterflies and then secure with a brad to hold it together.
7. Take a marker and add "lines" to the centre of your pansy.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold card base in half.
2. Run Whisper White through Big Shot with Top Note and then again with the Polkadot Embossing Folder. Attach ribbon as shown and then adhere to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
3. Stamp greeting on Whisper White with Elegant Eggplant ink, and then punch with Wide Oval. Secure to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
4. Attach pansies to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Printed Petals with Baby Wipe Technique

Baby Wipe technique has always been one of my favourites to share with customers. It's so easy and packs a punch!

Technique Directions

Download Baby Wipe Technique

1. Take a pile of baby wipes and ensure you put them in an empty stamp case or on a plastic bag.
2. Take reinkers and randomly add dots of the ink to the baby wipe. You want to ensure you create an area with ink that is large enough for your stamp.
3. Press stamp into your baby wipe pad and stamp image on cardstock.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold card base in half.
2. Run wheel along bottom portion of card using Poppy Parade ink.
3. Stamp greeting in Pear Pizzazz on Pear Pizzazz cardstock. Wrap ribbon around and secure underneath with SNAIL. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
4. Cut out baby wipe flower, and then stamp the other two flowers and cut out. Attach all three flowers to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Top off by adding the buttons to the card base with Mini Glue Dots.

Easter Blossoms: Emboss Resist with Pastels

Emboss Resist is an easy wow technique. This week we are going to mix it up by using pastels and gold embossing powder!

Technique Directions

Download Emboss Resist with Pastel Technique

1. Stamp image as desired on cardstock in Versamark.
2. Cover with embossing powder of your choice and heat set.
3. Using pastels gently sponge overtop of the image. Use lots of colors for a multi-toned effect.
4. If any pastels stick to your embossed image you can easily remove with tissue.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut and fold card base in half.
2. Run Baja Breeze piece through Big Shot with the Tulip Frame Embossing Folder.
3. Cut butterfly out of Very Vanilla, and oval out of Perfect Plum using Big Shot.
4. Stamp branch image on butterfly in Versamark, and greeting on oval in Versamark. Cover with gold embossing powder, tap off the excess and heat set.
5. Using pastels, execute emboss resist on the butterfly as per above technique directions.
6. Attach tulip frame piece to cardstock using SNAIL.
7. Attach oval to card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.
8. Take butterfly and gently curl up wings and then attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Technique Directions

1. Cut seam binding on one and and fray the binding.
2. Towards the centre grab a single thread so that the ribbon starts to gather.
3. Using your fingers gather the ribbon as desired.

Tips & Tricks: Make sure you have enough seam binding on hand to try this technique so you can get a feel for how to gather the ribbon first.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut and fold card base in half.
2. Run Very Vanilla cardstock through Big Shot with embossing folder and attach to the card base with SNAIL.
3. Cut Designer Series Paper and mat for it and attach together using SNAIL.
4. Gather seam binding as above and attach to centre mat by wrapping around the back with SNAIL. Attach to the card base with SNAIL.
5. Stamp image with Staz-On on Watercolor Paper. Color as desired with markers and blender pen. Punch out with oval punch.
6. Punch Decorative Label out of Rose Red cardstock and layer stamped image on top with SNAIL. Attach to centre of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Add pearls on top of the ribbon as shown.

Frosted Cupcake

Cupcakes are one of the hottest trends in papercrafting, and the new build a Cupcake punch is perfect for creating these little cuties on your cards and scrapbook pages. Technique Directions

Note: I will upload the directions in pdf format when I get back from Nashville.

1. Using a small container mix together equal parts of White Embossing Powder and Dazzling Diamonds. Be sure to mix them well.
2. Take punched out "top" of cupcake and apply Versamark. Cover with embossing powder/dazzling diamonds mixture and tap off excess. Heat and set with Heat Tool.
3. Allow to cool and repeat to build up frosting.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold cardbase in half.
2. Take piece of Soft Suede cardstock and run through paper crimmer. Punch out bottom of cupcake.
3. Punch cherry out of glimmer paper.
4. Punch circle out of Whisper White and stamp greeting towards bottom in Red Classic.
5. Attach bottom of cupcake to circle using SNAIL, attach top using a Stampin' Dimensional and the cherry with a glue dot.
6. Add ribbon to card base using SNAIL. Cut off at left edge and cut on angle towards the right hand edge.
7. Add circle with cupcake using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Watercolour Wonder Crayons

Technique

Download Technique Sheet

1. Stamp image in desired ink.
2. Color with Blender Pen and Watercolor Wonder Crayons.

Tips and Tricks: To keep your crayons fresh and extend their life, take the color from the flat end of the crayon using your blender pen and apply to your project. For larger images, you can color using the chisel tip and then disburse the color using the blender pen.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut Top Note out of Real Red using the Big Shot.
2. Cut larger of the Scallop Squares out of Crumb Cake using the Big Shot.
3. Stamp image in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla and then punch out with circle punch.
4. Color image in with crayons and blender pen.
5. Sponge edges with Crumb Cake Classic Ink for a vintage feel.
6. Attach Scallop Square to the Top Note using SNAIL. Layer colored image on top using Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Stamp greeting in Garden Green Classic on Very Vanilla cardstock, punch with Modern Label and then attach to project using Stampin' Dimensionals.
8. Set eyelet using Crop-A-Dile and tie knot with twill tape.
9. Add glitter underneath the girl using the 2-Way Glue Pen.

2. Take designer series paper and emboss with Big Shot.
3. Sand to reveal snowflakes.
4. Stamp image in bottom right hand corner.
5. Sponge Shimmer Paint over surface of card. Set aside to dry.
6. Attach to cardbase with SNAIL and top off with Basic Pearls.

Spot Heat Embossing: a Tutorial

Learn how to add embossing detail to a focused area this week. Perfect for adding a bit of shine with clear embossing powder as on the bells above.

1. Take Versamarker and color where you want to add the embossing detail. This is a great way to add clear embossing powder over colored images.
2. Add embossing powder and tap off excess.
3. Heat set until it becomes shiny. (It's hard to see here but the bells become shiny!)

Tips and Tricks:

• Using the Versamarker, you can add clear embossing powder to highlight images on your card, fill in areas, etc.
• The Versamarker is a great way to fix stamped images that you've embossed and haven't turned out as you wish.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Take designer series paper with music notes from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper and tear gently. Ink edges with Crumb Cake Classic Ink. Attach to Basic Black Cardstock with SNAIL. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
3. Cut large tag using Big Shot out of Crumb Cake Cardstock.
4. Stamp holly images randomly on tag using Crumb Cake Classic Ink.
5. Stamp greeting with Early Espresso on right top side.
6. Add strip of Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper to bottom of tag. Top off with strip of Basic Black ribbon with SNAIL, trim off edges.
7. Stamp bells on left hand side in Basic Black and color in with markers.
8. Take Versamarker and carefully color over the stamped/colored image. Add clear embossing powder and tap off excess. Heat set until it is shiny.
9. Add vintage brad through hole on tag.
10. Attach tag to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Get out that Versamarker and see where you can use embossing powder to add a little unexpected pop to your projects.

1. Cut Designer Series Paper to 5.75 to 3. You may need to trim a hair off the 5.75 inch side to make it fit into the envelope.

1. Lick flap and slide Designer Series Paper into envelope.

1. On the front it will look like this. Trim off overhang with paper snips.

 

1. Fold along crease with bone folder. You can keep it shut with SNAIL or Dotto.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Ink up Christmas Collage background stamp with Soft Suede and stamp on Crumb Cake.
3. Attach stamped panel to Soft Suede mat with SNAIL.
4. Attach ribbon in behind panel, and then attach ribbon and panel to card as shown.
5. Stamp greeting in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock and punch with Decorative Label. Attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
6. Trim edge of ribbon as shown and then top off with a Very Vanilla button using a glue dot.
7. Add pearls to bottom right of stamped image.

You can step up your cards by lining your envelopes this year. This a great way to add some elegance to your projects while using up extra Designer Series Paper!

Glass Glitter

This week's technique gives you some tips and tricks on working with the new Glass Glitter in the Holiday Mini Catalog. Glass Glitter comes in two colors Champagne and Silver. Glass Glitter is made from actual glass, so you need to be careful when using it. There are several different ways to work with glass glitter including with glue dots, 2-Way Glue Pen or Tombo Multi, but today we are doing to add it in a uniform way using Sticky Strip.

Technique Directions

1. Add sticky strip to project as desired.
2. Peel off red backing and then shake glitter overtop. Tap off excess.
3. Avoid trying to smooth it out with your hands. If you have lumps, take your bone folder and run it along to even it out.
4. This will give you a uniform, smooth look with your glitter.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Attach Always Artichoke and Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper with SNAIL.
3. Stamp greeting and sled image in Early Espresso on Crumb Cake.
4. Attach stamped image to Cherry Cobbler cardstock with SNAIL, and then attach to the card to finish with SNAIL.

This is a great way to add drama to your holiday cards without a lot of bulk! Plus, Glass Glitter will tarnish over time when exposed to air so it will take on a vintage look.

1. Run cardstock Vellum through Big Shot using desired embossing folder.
2. Attach to project using Mini Glue Dots. You want to place the glue dots where they will be covered up by accessories or stamped images.

Notes:

• With this technique, you want to make sure you use Cardstock Vellum. It is heavier and runs through the Big Shot without tearing. Lighter weight Vellum will tear as it is embossed.
• This is a great way to add texture in a unique way.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Emboss vellum and attach using glue dots as outlined above.
3. Attach ribbon to card by tucking edges of ribbon underneath edge and ensuring they are covered up on the flip side.
4. Stamp a butterfly on Whisper White - one each of Blushing Bride, Concord Crush and Peach Parfait – and punch out with Butterfly Punch and put aside. Attach to card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Top off each butterfly with a Basic Rhinestone.

Cards that wow don't have to be complicated or time consuming. Simple and elegant techniques like this one can take things to the next level without a lot of extra steps!
